“Drunk Julia Roberts trying to remember her own lyrics,” spoken word artist, warbling duck; however you want to refer to her, trouty-mouthed hype princess Lana Del Ray is releasing her new single “Born To Die” — A just-emo-enough for Radio 1’s A-list affair, with a slew of remixes from big hitters such as Joy Orbison, Jamie Woon, and Clams Casino (Who we’re all a huge fan of, but can’t begin to even describe his effort in this.) Blur frontman Damon Albarn also enters the fray of remixers, donning the pseudonym PDP13 for this remix — which is the best we’ve heard by far.

Nicki Minaj never fails at shocking us, and this video produced by bad boy video producer, Hype Williams, does just that. From start to finish an array of colours, flashing images, and wigs grace the screen; showing the various personalities of Minaj. Hot pink backdrops, pastel coloured makeup and Japanese Anime eyes, this video is totally weird; but as we all know by now, Nicki Minaj doesn’t do things by half! The Lady Gaga of Hip Hop.

Bass Ache comes but once a month, and Luke (Pinot) has kick started any self-respecting grime-head’s advent with the greatest line-up yet; legendary DJ Slimzee. Slimzee commands much respect for being in on the ground floor of the grime scene, and with good reason; DJing on Rinse since day, long before they became a bonafide station, and playing a set with heavyweight MCs Dizzee and Wiley, long before they became chart friendly, and way before the invention of Twitter, when Wiley still had to air his beef in battles, and not in 140 characters or less. To get in on the historical action, get yourself down to The Bank on Stokes Croft from 10pm -and be sure to get there early if you don’t want to miss out- and we almost forgot the best part; it’s free!

Ummm. Slightly scared and confused by this video. Great song, and the visuals in are amazing, but what does it actually mean?! After just watching Super 8 on a lazy Sunday I now feel like the aliens are coming to earth.. Time to watch X Factor and get back to reality!

Dazed & Confused x River Island Party

Last Wednesday we headed down to the invite only Dazed & Confused party at Basement 45, the night was sponsored by the kinda folks over at River Island which meant…FREE BAR! DJ’s on the night included The Kelly Twins, Nightwave, Rustie, and a PA from Javeon McCarthy. 

A good night of music and rum, what else could we ask for?! Shame it was on a school night though, Thursday was a tough one for us Dutty Girls.
